Somewhere only we know

Round 14: Autumn 2021

Kurt Robinson is 65, Tina is 33 and Tim is 11 months.
(Frieda is 13.)

Narrated by Kurt Robinson.

Tina's maternity leave ended about a month ago and she got back to working in the hospital. She usually gets Tim out of the crib the moment he wakes up so that she can spend at least some time with him in the morning.

I never thought I'd be doing this again at this age, at least not with my own child! I'm doing fewer days in the restaurant right now because it's hard to get a full-time nanny for babies before their first birthday.

Tim is quite a fuzzy baby. I usually feed him first and then put him on the bouncer in hopes that I can finish my breakfast but usually he's screaming his little lungs out way before I'm finished.

He likes the dangling toys a lot better so I put him on the blanket and can even take a shower while he's playing.

Tina is more than happy to take care of Tim's evening routines. She says she misses spending time with him but at the same time she feels that she's a much better mother if she gets to spend a few hours out of the house every day.

Frieda comes to visit us quite often nowadays. I've been trying to convince her to move in with us and I think she's finally giving in. It helps that she's become good friends with Tina.

She finally agreed to move in with us as soon as we find a bigger apartment. She did have one question though.

"Are you gonna make out everywhere and make me sick?" she asked. I just stared at her and didn't know what to say. Tina nudged me with her elbow and said that Frieda's just kidding.

I guess one reason she agreed to move to live with us is that she's completely smitten with Tim. If he makes even one peep in his crib then Frieda goes and gets him and feeds him his bottle or just plays with him until he's content. Jack told me that she's the same with Emma.

We're hunting for a bigger apartment now. Tina checks the newspaper every day and we're both keeping our ears open in case we hear of any vacancies. The sooner we get to move into a bigger place the sooner I'll have my daughter living under the same roof with us.

Speaking of daughters, Grace has warmed up to Tina a lot lately. Tina told me that they've started having lunch together at the hospital cafeteria whenever their schedules allow. Grace has also visited us even when I'm not home.

She's completely smitten with Tim too. She even said that she and Sam could babysit if Tina and I want to go out together.

So far we've been happy to just spend some time together late in the evenings after I've come home work and Tim is sleeping.

It feels like Tina's love brought me back to the light after so many years in the dark.

Notes:
  • Title reference: Somewhere only we know by Keane.
  • I've decided to move Frieda in with Tina and Kurt but not until next round. Her update (with the rest of the Robinson family) is coming in Summer 2022 and I hope by that time I'll have Kurt and Tina living in a bigger apartment.
  • I let Tina get a couple of promotions so she's now an Assistant Counselor. I imagine she's gotten her Master's degree in Psychology before she became a playable so I'll let her get promoted next round if she can.
  • I've never seen a baby who hates the bouncer so much! Usually my sims babies are more than happy to sit there for at least 30 minutes (game time) but Tim got fed up immediately and started crying.
  • This is the end of year 2021 in Wellington. I'll start updating the profiles and student enrolment soon and the birthday post should be up in a couple of days.

  1. I'm glad everyone is getting along, babies have a tendency to make everyone feel all mushy :). I'm sure Kurt is very happy about Frieda moving in, he'll his family together in one house.

  2. Marriage is doing Kurt good, he even looks younger, can't wait until Frieda moves in and they get a bigger place.

  3. Aw, so this is why you said Tina and Kurt needed a new apartment building! I was wondering if this one had corrupted or something.

It's good to see that Grace and Tina are getting along better these days. It's realistic that it would happen after the baby's arrival too. People sometimes reassess their disagreements when there's a new baby in the picture.

That last photo is adorable. What a sweet couple these guys are. And I agree with AV, Kurt does somehow look younger!

  4. Aww, I love that last picture of Tina and Kurt cuddling/reading on the couch. They look so happy and comfortable together. Tim does look like a little handful, but I'm sure he'll be such a fun sim to watch when he gets bigger!

  5. Mizzgin03, I'm glad they're all getting along well. Kurt is so happy that Frieda will be living with him and Tina soon.

    Thanks for reading. :)

Apple Valley, I think you're right, Kurt looks younger even though I haven't changed his appearance at all. I guess he just looks happier.

    Thanks for reading. :)

Carla, yes, that's why :) This one works pretty well but the apartments are too small.

I think it was much easier for Grace to accept Tina than it was for Jack.

I like how the last photo turned out. They are a sweet couple, I felt all mushy when I was playing them.

    Thanks for reading. :)

fortuneshores, I'm glad you like the picture, I like it too. Tim has to be the most demanding sim baby I've ever had. Hopefully he'll be a bit easier to take care of as a toddler.

    Thanks for reading. :)

  6. I love that his marriage and the baby have given Kurt a new lease on life. So nice that Frieda is moving in with them, too - they will make a nice little family together.

  7. Blackcat, it is nice that Kurt is happy. He was so sad for a long time after Olivia's death. It means a lot to him to have Frieda living with them too.

    Thanks for reading. :)

  8. like Blackcat I'm happy that Frieda is moving back in because it's sad if you think about it for a 13 year old to rather live with her brother and his family than her own dad and step-mom. Also Sari, I need a bit of ACR assistance lol http://katrinaisawesome.blogspot.com/2011/07/acr-question.html

  9. Katrina, it's kind of understandable though that Frieda didn't want to move in with Kurt and Tina at first. The farm has been her home for 13 years and she did'nt really know Tina when her father moved in with her.

I've answered your question on your blog.

    Thanks for reading. :)

  10. Love this family, my dads engaged to a much younger woman so i can relate.

  11. This family is so sweet! It seems Tim has brought them all closer. I think Kurt probably needs that in his life.

It's good that Frieda will be moving in as she will provide a little extra help with fidgety Tim!

  12. Roxy, I didn't expect to like this family so much but I had fun playing them.

    Thanks for reading. :)

Driftwood Valley, it was shocking for Kurt's family but I think Tina is just what he needed. He was slowly fading away before he met her.

That's what I was thinking too, Frieda will be a free babysitter, lol!

    Thanks for reading. :)

  13. I can imagine Kurt not expecting to do all this baby-stuff with his own kid at his age, but he's doing great!
I think they make a cute couple, and I can't help but wonder if Tina might want any more children some day :)
I'm happy Frieda finally decided to move in with her dad, it couldn't have been easy on him, not having his daughter with him at her age!

  14. Hello. I found you through Carla and have spent the last week and a half catching up. Your sims are delightful, your writing is good and sometimes I enjoy your commentary at the end of the entry more than the contents. All in all, this has been great to read and I'll definitely be continuing to follow.

  15. Fini, wow, thank you! I'm glad you've enjoyed catching up, that's a huge amount to read. I'm going to check out your blog now :)

    Thanks for reading. :)

  16. It nice that Kurt's older children are warming up to Tina. It will make things a lot easier in the long run for all of them.

Having Frieda around should be a big up too. It will give her practice if she decided to try for her lifetime want of Marrying Off 6 kids.

  17. oasisvalley, it really is nice. Kurt loves Tina but he doesn't want to lose touch with his children. I'm glad they're getting along.

Oh, I can tell you right away that Frieda will not have 6 kids, unless some of them are accidental pregnancies. My absolute limit is 4 kids per family and even that's going to be extreme in the future.
