Lot tour: 2170 Marigold Road

2170 Marigold Road, Allerdale
August 2024

2170 Marigold Road is the home of the Fielding-Parker family in Allerdale.

Toby and Erin and their daughters Iona and Naomi moved into the house in 2023.

The house has a backyard with enough space for a nice terrace.

First floor layout.

Second floor layout. The open space above the living room and kitchen can be turned into bedrooms if the family needs more room.

The hall way. The door on the left leads to the study. Behind the first door to the right is the master bedroom and behind the other door is the downstairs bathroom.

The study where Erin occasionally works on legal papers if she's left work a bit early.

There's also a book case and a little sofa to sit and read on.

Toby works as a fire fighter so he uses the treadmill to stay in shape.

The master bedroom. The picture above the bed was taken on one of Erin and Toby's first dates. Erin's favourite colour is light blue and Toby's is white so they've decorated the bedroom using both colours.

Erin and Toby haven't filled their bedroom with too many furniture, just the basics.

The downstairs bathroom is just a typical bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower/tub combo and of course a potty chair for Naomi.

The kitchen is compact but very practical.

The dining area has a nice view outside.

The family loves watching tv and movies together so they have big sofas in the living room.

The winding staircase leads into the second floor.

This is the girls' own little tv nook although Naomi is still too young to enjoy it.

The doors leading to the girls' rooms and the bathroom.

The shower in the upstairs bathroom. (This is a shower curtain from ohbehave's blog, link can be found in my pinterest. I placed it there with the moveobjects on cheat and sims walk through it to take a shower.)

Naomi playing in her room.

Another view of Naomi's room.

Iona's room is decorated in her favourite colour, black.

The little palm tree statue is a souvenir from Iona's dad Greg from the time he lived on Kalaupapa Island.

Iona's desk and bookcase. Her mother bought her the little plants and told her to keep them alive.

Notes:
  • Here's the promised tour of the house that was featured in the latest update.
  • Initially I built an apartment building that had three identical apartments with layouts like this one, based on an apartment building in some Finnish architecture magazine. However I decided to divide the building into three separate houses. They're all similar to this one except one is yellow and the other is pink. Kurt and Tina Robinson live in the yellow one with their kids, the pink one is still unoccupied.

  1. Thanks for the tour of this beautiful family home! I love the layout, the colours, the style - everything about it! It's uncluttered and modern without feeling "cold", as sometimes overly modern houses can appear.

    1. I'm not very good at adding loads of clutter but I think it works well this way. Some simmers decorate amazingly with lots of clutter but I think my decorating style is generally more minimalist. I only plan on adding some family photos once I get to recolouring them.

Anyways, I'm glad you liked it.

      Thanks for looking. :)

  2. I adore the house, you should upload it. You did an amazing job on the layout and the decor. I love the rug, windows and cute little nook in the upstairs foyer, so nice.

    1. I'm really pleased that you liked it! I've never uploaded any houses and I'm not sure how it would work out because this house has a lot of CC. I guess I could share just the shell with just minimal Maxis furniture.

The little nook upstairs is one of my favourite things about this house. I think it's a great space for the girls because Erin and Greg can keep an eye on them since it's an open space.

      Thanks for looking. :)

    2. Oops... I just noticed I had written "Erin and Greg"... obviously I meant that Erin and Toby can keep an eye on the girls!

  3. I love your houses, they're always so bright and airy! The unusual rugs you used in this place might be one of my favourite things about the house. So lovely!

    1. My sims' houses are everything my RL house is not, LOL.

I have tons of recolours of that rug. I thought these suited this house so well because they add a little twist to the decoration. I always try to find something to bring more colour especially if I decorate with light colours.

      Thanks for looking. :)

    2. Is that one of Nengi65's rugs? The ones that are slaved to each other in several different sizes? I love those rugs and can't wait to add them back to my game!

    3. It's Echo's mesh, the 3x4. That's the only custom rug mesh I have in my game at the moment.

  4. I love the house, it looks great, so airy and spacious!
I love that litte nook upstairs, and that it has an open look on the lower floor.
It's even possible to add some extra rooms when the family is growing a little bit too much :)

    1. I'm really happy with how the house turned out. The floorplan was easy to simmify and I loved decorating with these colours. The nook is one of my favourite things.

      Thanks for looking. :)

  5. This is a really lovely home, Sari. I especially love the winding staircase and the banister over the living room.Great choice in using light blue and still being able to incorporate other colors in the bedrooms to give them personality. All the rooms are so spacious and give you ample room to add more stuff for Toby, Erin, and the kids. This is really nice.

    1. Thank you. One thing I like about the house is that it's not huge but there's still a lot of space and room for expansion too. I really need to get back to making family portraits so I can use them in my houses, they really add a personal touch to any home.

      Thanks for looking. :)

  6. This is a great home for them, I really like the rug in Iona's room, with a heavy color like black, you really made it seem youthful but not gothic. The little nook on the upstairs is great, I can see the girls loving that.

    1. I'm glad you like the house.

Black can be a tricky colour to decorate with. I definitely didn't want Iona's room to seem too dark and I don't see her as a goth either so I used a splash of brighter colours here and there. It turned out pretty much exactly how I wanted.

      Thanks for looking. :)
