School days, February 2024

Round 15: February 2024

Principal: Rianna Midlock

Narrated by Patsy Greene

It's always so exciting for new students to start school work and I just love to see those little faces light up when they see the class room. This year I have 3 students but next year there will be eight. I'm already dreading the idea of a class full of kids!

It's exciting for the parents too. The parents come to school with the pre-schoolers on the first day. We've all met during orientation but it's nice to see them again. There's a funny thing about the parents this year: Stella Harris and Deacon Burrows have both a child and a grandchild in my class! Their adopted son Nick is the same age as their son Finn's daughter Shea.

My dear friend Alexa's youngest is also in my class this year so I'm hoping we'll keep more in touch than we have over the past couple of years.

Stella wanted to talk to me in private so we stayed behind when the kids went to the cafeteria to have lunch. She explained that while Nick has settled very well into his new home he still has a tendency to keep to himself. I told her that I would make sure he participates and that the other kids play with him. It can't be easy to move into a different country, even if you're young enough to adapt quickly. It made quite a good impression on me to see that Stella really cares about her "new" kids and it's not just a publicity trick for her.

The least favourite part of my work is the paper work. But I try to do something every day so that I don't have work piled up on my desk at the end of the week.

Rianna and I have become friends over the years and she often pops into the office to chat if she has time. She looked tired and upset so I asked if there was something wrong. She told me that they have some problems at home with Emily. Her boyfriend died last year and she's really taking it hard. I couldn't really offer any advice, the only thing I could say was that I would listen whenever she needed to talk. I can't even imagine what's going on in Emily's mind. Puberty is hard enough without something so tragic to happen. The problems with my kids - toys everywhere and missed homework - seem pretty small compared to what Rianna's family is going through.

Notes:
  • Title reference: School days by Chuck Berry.
  • A very short and very lame school update. I took some pictures of the other classes as well but it was like looking at the same old pictures from all my previous school updates so I didn't use any of them. Hopefully my little students will be less boring next time!
  • The Midlocks' update is coming next so you'll get to see more of Emily's situation. Let's just say she's having a very hard time coping with the loss of Ethan.

  1. I liked the update and seeing the preschoolers, I alway toy with the idea of having preschoolers in my game. I hope Emily can get things together :(

    1. I like the preschoolers, they're so darn cute because they're so small. And their class room is my favourite in the school.

I have already have a draft written for the Midlock update (which is very unusual for me) so now I just need to take the pictures to go with the text.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  2. It may be short but it is also intriguing. I haven't read much of your blog yet but now I will be going back to read about Ethan's death and to find out more about this adoption. I want to see how you managed an adoption from another country. :)

    1. I don't think I wrote any specific information about the adoption because in-game it was just like any adoption. But off-game it was an international adoption and the kids are from Russia.

Ethan's death has had a strong effect on the whole hood so it's definitely worth reading.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  3. Oh, poor Emily. :( As time goes on, you realise just how much one sim's death affects the whole hood.

I'm really glad Stella is being pro-active with helping Nick adjust to his new country. Having a great teacher like Patsy will be a positive step in that direction too.

    1. Ethan's death really changed lives for many of my sims. I thought that it wouldn't be realistic for Emily to be like nothing had happened when it has only been about six months.

I thought Stella would be not only protective mother especially when it comes to Minka and Nick but also the type of person to make sure her kids get the best the school has to offer.

      Thanks for reading. :)
