Flower

Round 14: Spring 2021

Nyah Marlowe is 35, Thomas is 34, Skye is 9, Jett and Kyra are 7 and Lina is 5.
(Max is 65, Regan is 57, Toby is 29, Erin is 26, Lilly is 16 and Iona is 9.)

Narrated by Nyah Marlowe.

Weekdays are usually pretty crazy in our houses. The kids bring their friends over from school almost every day so there's not a quiet moment there.

I don't mind it though. The kids were eerily quiet for a long time after Vicki died so I'm just glad that they're back to normal.

Thomas and I decided that it's about time to take the kids to eat in a restaurant so on Friday night I got the kids ready and we walked to the restaurant in our neighborhood. We stayed outside for a while and let the kids play on the playground before going in. The restaurant is very popular so we knew it would be full during the weekend. On Friday night there were only a few other customers besides us.

It all went well except when the waiter spilled a bowl of salad on Thomas. He apologized many times and also gave us a discount.

The kids were really excited when we told them that they could order anything they wanted. I was quite surprised when Kyra insisted on having prawns but she emptied her plate so she must have liked them.

The kids were really tired when we got back home so they went straight to bed.

The next morning the weather was really nice so the kids went outside to play while Thomas and I started our weekly clean-up. We're usually too busy to do any proper clean-ups during the week so Saturday morning is a good time to tidy the house up.

The house was surprisingly tidy - I think the nanny sometimes cleans up if she has time - so we ended up making out instead and also make plans for the rest of the weekend.

We decided to invite my side of the family over. We rarely have all of our family here because there's so many of us. We've been spending a lot of time with Thomas's family after Vicki's death so we thought it would be about time to get my parents and siblings together.

I've only met Toby, Erin's fiancé, a few times but I like him a lot. He seems to be completely smitten with Erin and gets along great with Iona.

Having people over also gave us a good reason to try out our new barbecue. We bought just a couple of weeks ago and haven't really used it yet. I grilled a chicken while Thomas entertained the guests.

It was so nice to see Erin and Lilly again. Lilly's gotten so grown-up. She's already 16 and going to college in a couple of years. Some time ago she told me and Erin that mom and dad were having some problems in their relationships, fighting and avoiding each other. She said that things are looking better now. At least they're not fighting all the time.

Erin suggested that maybe we should buy them a vacation for their 30th anniversary which is in 2 years. Lilly and I both thought it was a great idea. None of us want to even think about the option that our parents would get divorced.

Iona and Skye are best friends so naturally they were inseparable the whole time.

I was kind of worried that our kids wouldn't have a grandmother who's involved in their lives after Vicki's death. Mom loves Iona and our kids but she's really focused on her career. It's been great to see that she's taken a much more active role in our kids' lives lately.

It was so nice to spend time with my family. We're all very excited about Erin and Toby's wedding even though it's over a year ahead. I think it's going to be a much bigger event than our wedding.

It wasn't hard getting the kids to bed because they were pretty tired from spending almost all day outdoors. Thomas read some book for a while and I watched tv even though nothing good was on.

Then Thomas put on some nice music and asked me to dance with him. He always surprises me with these little romantic gestures when I least expect it.

We moved on to the sofa after a while and stayed up quite late just talking and cuddling.

Notes:
  • Title from "Flower" by Amos Lee.
  • Finally an update! I don't know about you but I was already losing my faith. I did a complete re-install last weekend and everything seems to be working better.
  • I know I've toyed with the idea of letting Nyah and Thomas have one more kid but I think that ship has sailed. She keeps rolling the fear of having a baby so that's a clear sign that for her this is it. Her ideal family size is 6 and Thomas's is 3 so I think 4 is a good compromise.
  • I have a WCIF: I need more clutter for bedrooms, especially for kids' rooms. Stuff like stuffed animals and toys, and anything else. Just leave a link in the comments if you know where I could get that kind of things. I hate looking at my houses because they're so bare so I need more deco items. I think my computer can handle a few new downloads but I'm not gonna go overboard.

  1. I'm glad you were able to get your game working better!

Poor Thomas, getting salad spilled all over him, lol! It always makes me laugh when I see that happen. :D

  2. Glad you got everything working again! It's nice to see a drama free family once in a while :). I do hope the vacation helps Nyah's parents reconnect.

Simply Styling has some nice kid decor so you may want to try them. Unfortunately, most of it is catered towards girls:

  3. Nearly anytime my sims go to a restaurant the waiter spills salad over them. I don't understand what exactly are the chances for this to happen but they seem to be messed up.

It made me laugh that Nyah and Thomas decided to use their time with the children outside for making out :D

And congratulations for your game working better! :)

  4. Garden of Shadows just finished a monthly theme for clutter: http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=21772.0

    and there's also a clutter index: http://www.digitalperversion.net/gardenofshadows/index.php?topic=2119.0

    hope that helps

  5. Yay, I'm happy that your game is co-operating with you now!

I'm glad the kids enjoyed their dinner at the restaurant. Four kids eating out could have been a disaster, especially if they'd never been before.

I haven't let any of my Sims have five kids yet, so I understand stopping at 4 with these two! If Nyah's rolling the fear, it sounds like she's telling you she's done.

I have a lot of kids clutter by Steffor, who I think is at TSR but also has her own site? Sims 2 Sisters at TSR have a lot too. Simcredible Designs has some cool sets as well. Sandy at Around the Sims 2 has some nice toys for kids as well (and toddlers).

  6. Shana, thank you. I hope this is the end of game problems for me.

It's so funny when they spill the salad. I've never seen such clumsy waiters IRL!

    Thanks for reading. :)

Mizzgin03, whenever I play this family I know it's not going to end up in some dramatic scene so it's quite stress-free to play them. I haven't decided about the vacation for Regan and Max yet but the more I think about it the more I like the idea.

Thanks for reading and for the links. :)

Flit, the salad spilling doesn't happen very often in my game but it amuses me every time.

Well, with four kids you have to use any opportunity for making out, lol.

    Thanks for reading. :)

LaurelCrossing, thanks for the links. My DL folder is going to be bursting after I go to GoS!

    Thanks for reading. :)

Carla, I'm so happy too. I had a huge smile on my face after I finished the first play session in ages without a single crash!

I don't think I'd be brave enough to take four kids to a restaurant but then I thought that my brother and sis-in-law do that all the time so it can't be that awful, lol.

Nyah and Thomas are definitely stopping at 4 kids. I made the decision immediately when I saw that Nyah had the fear. I had been quite hesitant about a fifth baby anyway.

Thanks for the links. Oh my poor DL folder, lol!

    Thanks for reading. :)

  7. It's always good to spend time with family especially after a death. It's good to see everyone recovering.

This site has a few: http://www.betsyslittlesimshoppes.com/index.htm

  9. Heredoncove, it really is good to have family around, in sad times and in good times. The children seem to have recovered quite well but it is often said that kids adapt quickly to new situations.

Thanks for the link and thanks for reading. :)

    Apple Valley, thank you. :)

  10. The kids are really sweet, I liked seeing the family at dinner, and them all playing outside on the swingset. It's always fun to get families together, and a BBQ outside on a nice day is one of the best ways to do it. I adore Iona and Skye, and seeing them play.

I'm glad Lilly brought good news about their parent's marriage, and I hope they don't get divorced ether. A 30 year vacation would be a nice treat.

Too bad they aren't going for another one, but I think they have a pretty nice sized family already.

  11. Maisie, I enjoy getting families together especially now that my game didn't crash even once during this session. Iona and Skye are really adorable.

I thought it would be nice to hear what's going on in the Fielding household. They're not off the hook yet but it's getting better.

I think I'll never let any of my couples have 5 kids. I already have 2 couples who have 4 and that's a lot!
