It had to be you

Round 15: May 2023

Alexander and Bobbie Greene are 72, Patsy and Camryn are 32, Mia is 9 and Hanna and Jared are 2.

Narrated by Camryn Greene.

Our dog Nero died of old age a few weeks ago. She was awesome with the kids and they're really missing her. Mia especially has been begging us to buy a new dog.

She wants to get a new dog right now but both Patsy and I as well as Alexander and Bobbie feel that it would be best to wait until Hanna and Jared start pre-school. The idea of house training a dog while we're still potty training the twins doesn't sound too appealing to any of us. Mia wasn't pleased but she was happy when she heard she could pick out the dog once we get one.

I can hardly remember the time when Alexander didn't approve me as his daughter's partner. Nowadays we only argue about whether I should eat breakfast or not! I've never been much of a morning person and I usually just grab a cup of coffee before going to work. Alexander on the other hand insists that everyone should eat a proper breakfast.

We're very lucky to be living with Patsy's parents. Alexander and Bobbie are both doing fewer hours nowadays so most days we don't need to get a nanny for Hanna and Jared. It's been a very cold spring - even snowing on some days - but Alexander usually takes the twins out to play anyway.

Mia loves the fact that her grandma is at home when she comes home from school.

She's still in that adorable age where she thinks her mommies are the most wonderful people in the world. In a couple of years she'll start high school and I bet she won't run out to give us a hug when we come home from work.

We didn't have a big Mother's Day celebration but Bobbie and Alexander had helped Mia and the twins to get us a present.

They gave us a coupon for a 3 course dinner at Joie Délicieuse. Bobbie and Alexander promised to babysit.

We managed to get a table for the next Saturday and Bobbie insisted on putting the twins to bed so that we could get ready.

We were so excited to go on a date. Our 10th anniversary is coming this summer so this will be a celebration of that as well.

We put on our most beautiful dresses and got to the restaurant. We hadn't been there after the new owner re-decorated the place and we really liked the changes.

As much as I love my children, it was nice to get out of the house and spend some quality time with Patsy.

It's an expensive place so obviously we won't be dining there very often but the food was delicious and the whole atmosphere was so nice that we definitely want to come back there some day.

Alexander is such a doting grandpa and if it was up to him he'd probably have at least a dozen grandchildren! Patsy and I are definitely done and I think it's the same for Janie and Danny. However Dixie and Tom are having their first one in a few months and I'm quite sure Charlie and Brooke will start a family as soon as they get married.

My career isn't going so well at the moment. I broke a very expensive machine at work and they demoted me so my work schedule has changed again. I have a couple of days off during the week and I usually try to read work related books while the twins are taking a nap. I really want to get to the top but it's not easy.

Seeing my family makes me feel better though. I wouldn't change anything about my life right now.

Notes:
  • Title reference: It had to be you by Frank Sinatra.
  • There was a thread about Mother's Day at N99 some time ago and I realized that my sims get to celebrate all those special days now that I switched to months. One more reason to love this new calendar system!
  • I can't believe that Mia will be a teenager the next time I play this family. I can't wait to see what she looks like.
  • It was Donna's time to go. I'm planning to get them a new pet but I felt like this update had enough happening without adding a new dog to the family.
  • I re-decorated parts of the house because it was about time. The Greenes moved here almost 30 years ago and it still looked the same. I got them a new kitchen and also re-decorated the bedrooms using their favorite colors.
  • My summer holiday is starting in about a week and hopefully I'll get to play more. The weather so far hasn't been very summery so it's a great excuse to stay inside and play.

    1. Thanks, I tried using Bobbie's favorite colour orange for the kitchen but didn't want it to be too orange, lol.

It's funny because I play very slowly but still it feels like the kids grow up so fast.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  2. Aw, I loved Camryn and Patsy's date night! Looks like it was a very romantic evening. It's so nice that Alexander and Camryn get along these days too. It'd be awkward if they didn't, given they live together now!

The kids are so stinking cute! I refuse to believe Mia is so close to being a teen, lol. That's going to be a lot of fun to see though.

The house looks great, post-makeover. I love being able to spruce up a house - it really revitalises my interest in a family sometimes.

    1. I love sending my sims out on dates. Camryn and Patsy had a great night. It's great that Alexander and Camryn get along, it would be difficult for everyone if they didn't.

I love all the kids. I need to get more pics of the twins as toddlers because they will also age up before the next time I play this family. I'm really looking forward to getting new teenagers!

I don't know why I haven't made over the house sooner. They certainly have the money for it. I have to take some pics of the bedrooms as well, I forgot to do that.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  3. Love the kitchen! Orange is my favorite color so I'm all about it! Sad for poor old Donna. Poor Camryn getting demoted, but she has a lot of good going on so at least she can focus on that. The kids are all getting so big! I'm happy to be catching up over here!

    1. Orange is my favourite colour too so I was happy to be able to use it. I could definitely take that kitchen for my RL house any time.

Camryn's not as career-oriented as she was when she was younger. She's still ambitious but not to the point where a demotion would feel like the end of the world. Hopefully she'll get back on track soon though.

      Thanks for reading. :)

    1. Thanks, I had a lot of fun sending Camryn and Patsy out on a date. And when it comes to sim kids, I'm always like a proud mommy when someone says nice things about them, lol.

I can't remember if you've commented before either so I say WELCOME! :)

      Thanks for reading. :)

  5. I never thought about adding mother's day and father's day, and I've been playing in months for some time now :) I really like the idea though, I know my mom always loves that day, so I'm sure my sims would like it as well :)
I like the present they got. I'm sure they can really appreciate a night out, just the 2 of them, without the kids.

Mia almost a teen?? Really? I can't believe it! I'm looking forward to it at the same time though :)

I'm slowely redecorating some houses as well, some of them have been the same for many rounds, so it's time :)

    1. One of the main reasons to start playing in months for me was that my sims could celebrate birthdays, mother's days, father's days, christmas etc.

I have so many kids aging up to teens in the next few years and I always have to double-check to see if they really are that big! It's one of my favourite transitions so I'm always looking forward to it.

Remember to take "before" pictures when you re-decorate. I always forget to take those pics before I start decorating and it would be so nice to be able to compare the results.

      Thanks for reading. :)
