Boy with a coin

Round 15: September 2024

Dawn Whitfield is 20, Finn Harris is 19 and Shea is 4.
(Deacon is 59, Minka is 6 and Nick is 4.)

Narrated by Finn Harris.

It's been a bit weird since Josh and Lilly broke up. They usually came over together and now they carefully arrange their visits so that they won't be here at the same time. Josh says everything's going fine and he's having fun.

Something tells me he's trying to convince himself about it. I asked him about it but he just looked at me like he had no idea what I was talking about. I should probably get off his back and just let him enjoy his life.

It's not always smooth sailing for me and Dawn but I couldn't imagine being with anyone else.

I'm working from 22pm to 3am at a gas station so I get to spend much more time with Shea than I did last year. She's such a precious little girl.

We sometimes drive off to Wellington because there aren't any playgrounds at Brixton. Dad has taken a habit to join us with Minka and Nick. I think it's sad that mom can't come with us. Ever since the adoption the paparazzi have been following her around, hoping to get pictures of her with the kids so she avoids public places when she's with them. She says that the kids have gone through enough in their lives without being harassed by crazy photographers.

It's still a bit weird to think that Minka and Nick are my siblings. I've always wanted a little brother or sister but I never thought I'd get them this late in my life. They're great kids though so it's been nice to get to know them.

Some people say that my parents were crazy to adopt at their age but I don't agree. They're very youthful and they have so much love to give to these kids. I know dad was a bit hesitant at first but I can see how much he's enjoying this new phase in his life.

Minka was a bit reserved at first but it's been great seeing her open up to new people. All in all both Minka and Nick have settled into their new homes really well. The first few years of their lives were pretty rough so obviously they still have issues especially with trust but dad says they're making progress constantly.

I felt really awkward around Lilly after the break-up just because I'm friends with Josh. She didn't hold it against me though. Even right after the break-up when she was all heart-broken and crying she still said that she doesn't hate Josh.

"Part of me understands why he did what he did. It doesn't mean that I'm happy about it but there's nothing I can do about it."

She says that she was thinking about getting a room from another dorm for next year but now she's decided against it.

"Either I'll stay where I am or I'll try to get an apartment somewhere. Renting a house on campus without a room mate is just impossible."

Dawn and I looked at each other. We remembered that just a few months ago Lilly and Josh talked about renting a house together.

Seeing Josh and Lilly drifting apart makes me appreciate my own life even more that I did before.

Grades, autumn semester 2024:
- Dawn, culinary art (art), A+, GPA 3.8
- Finn, entrepreneurial studies (economics), A+, GPA 3.6

Notes:

  • Title reference: Boy with a coin by Iron and Wine.
  • I had no idea what to do with this update for a long time. I was also feeling unusually uninspired and even considered ditching Wellington for good. I finally just forced myself to play and actually enjoyed it quite a lot. So here I am, back again. :)
  • I know the last update was also narrated by Finn but it just felt easier to write from his POV. I promise next update will be more about Dawn.

  1. So glad to see that you got your mojo back, I love reading about your game and sims. I can't believe that soon they'll be out of university and on their own.

    1. I'm really glad too. I think I would miss Wellington a lot after a while if I stopped playing.

I honestly had to double-check to make sure that Dawn really will be a senior next year! I can't believe how fast the past 3 years in Wellington have gone. It has taken me ages to play them but it still feels like the time has just flown by.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  2. So happy you decided not to ditch Wellington! I'm always happy to see an update from you.

Dawn and Finn are doing awesome with their studies, considering they're raising a little girl at the same time and that Finn is also working (is Dawn working too? Can't remember if you said). Shea is a cutie and is such a nice mix of her mum and dad.

I can see why Finn would feel awkward around Lilly now but I'm glad she's not holding anything against him, just because he's friends with Josh. I still wonder what will happen with those two. It seems like there's still some feelings between them.

    1. I'm glad I was able to remember how much fun it is to play. We owe it all to Dawn, Finn and Shea who are such sweethearts. :)

Dawn and Finn are doing really awesome. Dawn hasn't been working but I'll have her start an internship in a restaurant for her senior year. I need to type all kinds of new rules etc. posts because the ones I have are very outdated.

I'm so anxious to play Josh and Lilly again. It really feels like they have a lot of unfinished business with each other. I'm still hoping they'd get back together but we'll just have to wait and see.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  3. Man I am glad that you didn't ditch Wellington!

I'm glad that Dawn and Finn are doing so well together, as for Finn having siblings this late in life, he isn't oh so old, and they aren't too young, that I think if he wasn't already so mature (with Dawn and a Dad himself) that he would have enjoyed them more from a sibling standpoint. But he's sort of moved on from that home/parent life into an adult one, even if he is still in college, that it's all different.

I'm glad that Lilly doesn't hate Josh, and none of them are being petty about who is friends with who. I didn't think they would be, I do hope they can work things out, sometimes a break is just what is needed in a relationship.

    1. I must have been crazy to think I could just abandon my dear sims! :)

You're right, it's not exactly an unusual age difference that Finn and Minka and Nick have. He's really happy for both his parents and also Minka and Nick but at the same time it's a bit strange for him.

I'm glad too that Lilly and Josh are being so mature about the break-up. It's not always easy for the mutual friends when a couple breaks up because there's always the possibility for the whole "who's side are you on?!" conflict. This thing between Lilly and Josh is definitely not concluded yet.

      Thanks for reading. :)

  4. I've felt the same way about SimsVille, especially when I had those problems and was forced to the possibily of starting all over! The problems solved themselves though, and I love SimsVille even more now, and enjoy it much more!
I'm glad you didn't ditch Wellington! I really love reading about your sims and have grown quite attachted to some of them :)

It's nice to see that Finn and Dawn are still strong depsite the problem's they've had in the past.
Their grades are pretty good as well, and they both seem to be able to combine it all, school, job, kid, eachother, very nicely, I'm sure it's not easy all of the time.

    1. I can totally understand that you felt the same especially with all the problems you were having in your game. I'm glad you were able to solve the problems and that you continue with SimsVille.

I think the break was really good for me, I enjoy Wellington much more now and have so many ideas for the hood. I feel like I've fallen back in love with all my sims.

It's definitely not always easy for Finn and Dawn but somehow they make it work. They don't get to spend much quality time together right now but hopefully that'll change once they both graduate.

      Thanks for reading. :)
