Another rainy day

Round 13: Winter 2020

Ryland and Jackie Whitfield are 69 and Dawn and Zach are 16.
(Olivia is 16 and Lilly is 15.)

Narrated by Zach Whitfield

Our parents bought double beds for Dawn and me as birthday gifts. They said we could take them with us when we move out or sell them to get money.

I'm pretty sure they didn't mean that we could now conveniently have sex in our own bedrooms but that's what I'm doing! I've been wanting to do it ever since Olivia and I started dating but she made me wait until last week. It was worth waiting.

I also have a driving licence now and mom lets me borrow her car sometimes so Olivia and I have been out and about quite often lately. It's great to drive to places instead of having to wait for the bus.

We've been going to this new restaurant, Oresha Diner. It's in Exmoor so I can save on gasoline. The food is good and it's a neat place.

I like Olivia but I don't see our thing going much further than this. I'm way too young to settle down with just one girl. Besides, I'm going to college in a couple of years and she's not. I want to meet new people and explore new things, not sit around in my dorm talking on the phone to my girlfriend.

Dawn has been acting really weird lately. We got a couple of snowdays from school and I was sure she would help mom at the restaurant. Instead she stayed home and moped all day. She didn't even practice cooking new dishes like she usually does if she has free time.

I think I finally nailed it down when I heard mom asking Dawn about Finn. She looked like she really didn't want to talk about him. I guess they've had a fight about something and now she's mad at him.

I thought that a change of scenery would be good for both of us so I dragged Dawn into the car and we drove off to Generation X. It was packed full so we had to be seated at the counter to get a quick bite.

I was kind of hoping that Finn would be there but he wasn't. Not that Dawn seemed to mind. She just sat there eating her food, didn't talk much. It's strange to see her like this. She's usually so bubbly, even to the extent of being a real pain in the butt but she's still my sister and I'm kind of worried to see her like this.

She did seem to liven up a bit when she was talking to Lilly but most of the times she just sat on the bench looking sad and worried. I think I just have to drag the truth out of her somehow.

Notes:
  • Title from "Another rainy day" by Corinne Bailey Rae
  • Finally an update! I've been having some major issues with my game. I've gotten so many crashes lately that it has pretty much put me off playing for a while. But I'm back now!
  • I will continue Dawn's story later so you'll find out what's going on with her.

  1. Ugh, not a cliffhanger! I want to know what's going on with Dawn. Of course since everyone has a teen getting knocked up in their game, that's immediately what I thought.

  2. Apple Valley, don't worry, I've scheduled a mini update for the end of winter so you'll all know what's going on then. That's all I'm gonna say, you can't any details out of me ;)

  3. I always give my teens double beds, if I can fit them. They are specifically for woohoo though, lol! It's less gross than them doing it on their parents' bed, which is where they head if they don't have a double of their own!

Oooh, you've got me on the edge of my seat now! I'm thinking Dawn might be pregnant too, because that's just where my mind is right now!

I have to say too, that this is such a good looking family! I love that family portrait. And look at Zach, he's so tall now! He's going to tower over both his parents if he keeps growing.

  4. Carla, I usually buy double beds for my teens nowadays for the same reason you do. They end up woohooing either in their parents' bed or the livingroom sofa even when their parents are home!

Ha, I'm still not telling! I have Erin and Iona's update coming up next but then I'll do a mini-update to shed light on Dawn's situation.

I really like that family portrait too although I wish it was a bit brighter. I'm using Maisie's method of making height genetic and Zach is going to be tall since he has Jackie's eyes. I usually determine my sims' adult heights when they turn 12 and then make them taller gradually rather than making them grow several inches in one year.

  5. Aww I hate seeing Dawn so sad, she looks really pitiful on the sofa. And ditto Carla, love the family photo. Looks great with Zach so tall! He's a good brother, taking his sister out and trying to get her feeling better.

  6. Maisie, it's really not usual for Dawn to be so down.

Thanks for the comment about the family photo. I'm using your method to make height genetic and it's so nice to have diversity in one family.

Zach is a good boy :)
